Part Exchanging Your Van

Part Exchanging Your Van

It is now the time of year when deals on vans are to be had, especially here at Swiss. We are currently offering great rates on all van part exchanges; so if your van is showing signs of age or you are looking to boost your business image with a new van, now is a better time than ever. On our website, we have an easy to use van part exchange form where you can simply enter your van number plate and we will get back to you quickly with a part-ex value for your van. Click here to get started or read on for a few tips on part exchanging.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Part Exchange.

One great advantage of part-exchanging for a new vehicle is that you can do away with potentially time-wasting and difficult-to-handle private buyers. Whether you like it or not, selling a pre-owned vehicle privately is not a breeze. Often, you have to direct potential-buyers to your home to look at the vehicle and maybe take it for a test drive. These actions could pose some degree of risk to you and your home as there is a possibility that would-be buyers are not exactly “buyers”. Also, you don’t have to spend money on fees to advertise your vehicle for sale.

One disadvantage of part-exchanging is that you cannot dictate that price that you want as dealers have overhead expenses to consider too. However, another advantage is that  if you are short on cash or just want to keep hold of your cash your current van can act as the deposit.

It is often said that part-exchange price should not be your primary concern nor should the price of the new van you would like to purchase. What should be your main concern is the price difference between the prices of the old and the new van. A discount on the new vehicle is futile if your part-exchange valuation is way below its current price.

Tips on Part Exchanging – Common sense stuff.

You just don’t drive into a dealer and have your vehicle valuated. Here are some tips in order to get the best part-exchange price for your vehicle.

Have all the paperwork sorted and collected. This includes your ownership documents (V5C logbook), current MOT details, servicing records and all other invoices for work done on the vehicle. Make sure that the service history of the van is up-to-date and concurrent with the manufacturer’s service record. In case the servicing isn’t current or if you lost the service record, look for a reliable and trustworthy garage to do the job.

If there are any damages on the van’s body, have it fixed if your vehicle is fairly new. If the van is quite old, the repair could cost more than what you could recoup through a higher part-exchange value.

Do not forget to have all sets of keys ready, including spares.

Clean the van, inside and out. A washed, waxed and vacuumed van looks fresh and well-cared for, making it more attractive to buyers.

If there are accessories, point these out as these will add value to your van. Make sure you take everything personal out of the van, even CDs as old Pink Floyd albums sadly don’t add to the value of your van.

What to Do Next

Once you know which van you would like to buy, find a trustworthy and reliable dealer or retailer to do valuation. Request a quote and consider all the finance options presented to you. This is also the time to request for a test drive.

Are you considering getting a new van through part-exchange?

The summer is on the horizon and the weather across the UK is already starting to warm up. What’s a better way to enjoy sun than setting out on the open roads in your van and enjoying the scenic beauty that Blighty has to offer? Ready to hit the road? Find out the best places to drive in the UK this summer to have a breathtaking adventure.

Best Places to Drive in the UK

We have put together some of our favourite van driving routes across the UK.  If you live near by these places,  can be day trips.  If you are living further afield than these places, load up the van and make a weekend of it. You will regret it if you don’t!

The Glens of Antrim – Northern Ireland

This wonderful stretch of the A2 is considered as one of the most scenic routes in the world. The 25-mile Antrim coast road runs from the Black Arch in Larne to the Cushendall’s Red Arch. It passes by the foot of the nine glens fronting the coastline and passes through the picturesque villages of Waterfoot, Carnlough, Glenarm and Ballygalley. Dunlunce Castle and the Giant’s Causeway are in the western section.

Horsham to Winchester

The A272 weaves around the typically English countryside of Hampshire and West Sussex. Great stop-offs are the towns of Petworth and Petersfield. The route is about 50 miles long and will take more than an hour of leisurely driving. Since this route is quite popular, one should be wary of speed traps, and walkers and revelers on bike. Sheep are known to cross the road.

The Dark Hedges, Ballymoney

This stretch of road lined with beech trees planted in the 18th Stuart family as an impressive landscape feature to awe visitors as they approach their Gracehill House. The tree-lined avenue have become one of the most photographed view in Northern Ireland and has gained more popularity as it filmed as the King’s Road in the highly successful TV series Game of Thrones. It is located in Bregagh Road off the A147 some 2.5 miles from the village of Stranocum.

Glencoe on the A82

Scotland is famous for its fantastic landscapes. Driving through Glencoe affords one spectacular views of soaring mountains, verdant valleys and crystal clear mountain rivers. The A82 runs from Glasglow to Inverness and also passes through Loch Lomond, Ben Nevis, Rannoch Moor, Commando Memorial, Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness. This road is about 167 miles long and is the second longest A-road in Scotland.

Black Mountain Road

Located in A4069 in Powys, Black Mountain Road is a 5-mile stretch of some of the most spectacular scenic drives not only in the UK but in the world. The road is practically deserted, affording drivers less distractions as he twists, climbs and dips his way through Brecon Beacons National Park. However, since its Top Gear feature, it is now usual to see car clubs members driving this challenging route on weekends.

Hutton-le-Hole

This small picture-perfect village is located in Ryedale, North Yorkshire, England. Located some seven miles NW of Picketing, sheep are licensed to roam the streets in the quintessential English village. The honeypot village attracts a huge number of visitors each year.

Some other destinations include A87, A863 and A850 around Skye, A470 from Conwy to Merthyr Tydfil, Abergavenny to Penderyn, Isle of Wight and Land’s End to St Ives.
