The Land Rover Defender Hard Top takes all the comforts of the Land Rover Defender SUV to create a rugged commercial vehicle that excels in both on-road and off-road conditions. The Land Rover Defender has a long history with the Defender Hard Top nameplate first used in 1950. It would be easy to think that when converting the Defender from an SUV to the Hard Top van, Land Rover simply removed the rear seat row to create space, added a bulkhead and laid a load floor. The changes are far more extensive and practical than that. The Land Rover Hard Top retains all the luxury of its SUV counterpart with the added practicalities expected of a posh van. With two wheelbase options, impressive engine specs and varying specification packs available, the Land Rover Defender Hard Top is simply one of the most desirable commercial vans on the market.
Van Size Really Matters
Engine Options for Land Rover Hard Top
The Land Rover Hard Top isn’t merely a fun off-roader, it’s a hard-working and practical commercial van. It comes with two wheelbase options – the shorter 90 version three-door and the longer five-door 110 version with varying specification packs available. Both wheelbase options have a third jump seat option. The 90 Hard Top has a load-carrying capacity of 1355 litres and 58 litres of lockable, underfloor storage. The load size capability is 1326 mm in width, 947 mm in height and 1031 mm in length. The 110 Hard Top has a load-carrying capacity of 2059 litres with the same 58 litres plus an additional 155 litres of lockable, underfloor storage. It can accommodate one standard Euro pallet with a carrying capability of 1423 mm width, 937 mm height and 1472 mm length. The fully serviceable carrying payload varies across the range depending on the wheelbase, seat number and suspension type starting at 740kg for the 2-seat 90 Hard Top through to 888kg for the 110 Hard Top fitted with 3 seats and air suspension. All Land Rover Hard Top models have a maximum legal towing capacity of 3500kg while carrying the maximum payload.
There are three engine types available for the Land Rover Hard Top and all variants are mild hybrid (MHEV) 3.0 litre, six-cylinder Ingenium diesels with 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The 90 Hard Top only offers the D200 with 200 hp and 500 Nm of torque with the possibility of engine size upgrades in the future. The 110 Hard Top comes with a choice of two engines: the D250 with 249hp and 570 Nm of torque and the D300 which boasts 300hp and 650 Nm of torque. Across the range, the 6-cylinder diesel mild hybrid engine (MHEV) has plenty of power to accommodate the build weight, payload, and towing capacity and fuel efficiency is 29.5mpg or 7.97L/100 km for all specifications.

Specification Packs
The Land Rover Hard Top comes in a range of specification packs (trim levels). The 90 Hard Top is only available in the Standard with the D200 engine. The 110 Hard Top offers the Standard, plus S and SE specification packs with the D250 engine or the SE and top-of-the-line HSE offering the D300 engine.

S Specification Pack on Land Rover Hard Top 110 includes everything from the Standard Spec Pack plus: LED headlights with auto high beam assist, part-leather seats, and 19-inch alloy wheels, with keyless entry and more.

SE Specification Pack on Land Rover Hard Top 110 includes everything from the Standard and S Spec Packs plus: 20-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights, ClearSight rear-view mirror, full leather upholstery, heated fully electric seats and Blind Spot Assist Pack with an upgraded sound system and more.
HSE
HSE Specification Pack on Land Rover Defender Hard Top 110 includes everything from the Standard, S, and SE Speck Packs plus: extended leather interior, upgraded 20-inch alloy wheels, heated and cooled fully electric adjustable Windsor leather seats with a Driver Assist Pack and more.
