Automatic vans are becoming increasingly popular as roads become more and more congested. For those who will spend a lot of time stopping and starting in traffic, using automatic transmission could be the ideal option. Having an automatic van can make driving much more relaxed and straightforward; you don’t have to use a clutch and the gears are changed for you, providing you with a much smoother ride.

Automatics tend to be more fuel efficient in these cases but for those who drive longer distances or use roads with higher speed limits, then sticking to a manual may be better for you. Vans with automatic transmission will generally cost more but they tend to hold their resale value better in the used market due to high demand and low supply.

As part of a fleet, your whole team can feel comfortable getting behind the wheel of an automatic van. They won’t have to get used to the feel of a different clutch and in the future, you may employ someone whose licence only permits them to drive automatic vehicles.

What automatic vans can I get?

You will be able to get your hands on an automatic van that can deliver for the needs of your business. Most van manufacturers offer their most popular vehicles with automatic transmission.

However, it is worth bearing in mind that we have small and medium automatic vehicles in stock but we don’t hold any large. This means we would have to order meaning delivery could take a while.

Small automatic vans

Having an automatic is perfect for city driving but it’s made even better when you have a small vehicle to navigate around in.

With the Ford Transit Connect adopting the famous Transit name, this van had a lot to live up to. It has been a great success winning International Van of the Year in 2014. It was made available in automatic with the FordPowershift. This is a six-speed dual clutch gearbox which effortlessly changes gear for you.

Another popular small automatic van is the Volkswagen Caddy. This uses the DSG dual-clutch gearbox which gives you the option to change gears yourself when need be. You can choose between a 6 or 7 speed gearbox.

Medium automatic vans

Our most popular vans are the Volkswagen Transporter, Mercedes Vito and Ford Transit Custom. Because of their popularity and versatility, we stock them all with automatic transmission.

With the Mercedes Vito, they use a 7-speed automatic gearbox called the 7G-TRONIC PLUS. This makes gear changing simple and improves fuel consumption. The system also includes cruise control and a start/stop system making the Vito an eco-friendly option.

The Ford Transit Custom Lease  is another reliable medium van option. Just like the Transit Connect, the Custom uses the FordPowershift which makes driving feel seamless.

Although it is an automatic, you can choose to select gears yourself with the Volkswagen Transporter. The DSG allows you to go fully manual or use ‘S’ mode for acceleration, holding on the gears for longer.

Large automatic vans

Probably the best large automatic van is the VW Crafter. Many people are tempted by the cheaper French models such as the Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat but these need to be batch produced so require at least 100 orders. The Crafter is more expensive but will be ready quicker and is a dream to drive.
