Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have achieved another milestone with their remarkable quality automobiles. After competing with 18 other light commercial vehicles, the VW Transporter T6.1 emerged victorious. It was declared the Safest Van at the last Euro NCAP consortium.

Euro NCAP consortium is an association of automobile clubs, research institutes, transport ministries, and insurers unions from Europe. The tests were designed to assess the functioning and performance of the active safety systems installed in the vehicles. Volkswagen’s Transporter T6.1 cleared the tests with flying colors and was awarded a Gold Medal in the Safest Van category. 

The Need?

Over the years, online commerce has experienced substantial growth and popularity. Therefore, the requirement for secure and robust delivery services has become more important. This has led to an increase in the use of vans on the streets to complete these tasks. Furthermore, this gives the NCAP consortium a strong reason to keep evaluating the operation and availability of the driver-assist systems. 

These are generally offered by the vans from the C/D and B category that are tested to carry a load of 3.5 tonnes. After performing exclusive and extensive tests, the NCAP association finally concluded that Transporter from VW received the best scores. How did Ford do?

After a long meeting, on 13^th November 2020, the Volkswagen Vans Group has announced that they will be making a new addition to their Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles range. They are planning on introducing an all-Electric vehicle range of 3 new and exclusive vehicles by 2024. This will include an electric D-SUV model for all brands operated by the VW Group. 

The Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Board of Management Chairman, Dr. Carsten Intra, stated that the production will start in the VWCV headquarter, Hannover in Lower Saxony, Germany. With the financial backing of approximately 680 million euros, Hannover will be upgraded to a multi-brand facility. 

Models designed and manufactured under this project will be completely electric and automated. This decision, taken by the Volkswagen Group, is said to be a huge achievement for the brand. However, implementing this decision will require a lot of hard work & efforts from the production teams of the company. 

Plans for the Production Unit

The manufacturing of the electric automobiles by VWCV, as said above, will be done at their Hannover site. For this, the facility will undergo a huge upgrade with the addition of a new production line. They have started taking small steps towards accomplishing their target by 2024, leading the industry towards an Electric Age. 

By successfully completing this project, not only will they be taking a huge leap for the automobile industry but will also take their brand a step closer to sustainability. Chairman Dr. Carsten also added that their preference for choosing Hannover over other units is because of the easy availability of resources and fully-equipped facility. 

They also thanked all members of the VW family, who have been striving to help the brand achieve this milestone. The Council Chair of VWCV Works, Bertina Murkovic, further added it was a tough decision for the Group, keeping the increasing competition in mind. Although, the production quality, resource availability, and other factors will be secured for the upcoming years.

The new prices of the fifth-generation Volkswagen Caddy have been announced. With new designs and assisting systems, Volkswagen Caddy will be available from December 2020 at £17,800*. The new Volkswagen Caddy has many features like increased interior space, energy-efficient engine, driver assistance systems for better safety and an infotainment system. 

Volkswagen Caddy now has:

• Caddy cargo- with maxi wheelbases and three trim levels
• Digital cockpit- touchscreen infotainment system to increase the driving experience

Practicality

There will be two wheelbase options available in the new Volkswagen Caddy- the Maxi with three trim levels and the standard one. A new version known as Caddy Cargo will also be available. Led headlights, led rear lights, new paint finishes and power latching side doors are some of the new features.

The dimensions of the new Volkswagen Caddy are 4500 mm length, 2755 mm long wheelbase, 1613 mm long load space and 1234 mm long rear opening. The total capacity of the maxi is 3.7 m³ while the standard one is 3.1 m³. 

Driver assistance systems

There is a total of 19 driver assistance systems in Volkswagen Caddy including trailer assist, eSIM technology and travel assist. 

Engines and powertrain

There are 1 petrol and 3 diesel engine options for the new Caddy. The engines follow 2021 Euro 6 emission standards and fuel consumption has also been reduced. 

Connectivity

The new digital cockpit with touchscreen infotainment systems are is an addition to increase comfort and functionality. The touchscreens are 6.5 to 10 inches in length and will have an integrated eSIM for calls. Many other features enhance the stylish interior like lighting and audio controls, electronic handbrake, height adjustable driving seat, electric windows and an improved steering wheel. 

Pricing

The prices of the new Volkswagen Caddy Cargo start from £17800*. The mid-level models will be priced from £19275 RRP. These versions will have rear parking sensors and body-coloured bumpers. In the top range Caddy cargos, discover media satellite navigation, folding exterior mirrors and anti-theft alarms are available and the prices will start at £22075.

The bookings start in December 2020.

Volkswagen has recently come up with a new service plan for the electric VW ABT E-Transporter, making it a milestone for the iconic van.

e-Transporter is Made To be Versatile

The new service plan of e-Transporter aims to bring additional peace of mind to the buyers. Priced at £399, it covers three services which namely brake fluid change, one MOT, and a pollen filter replacement. In addition, the transporter features an annual service schedule of every 24,900 miles along with an extended inspection after every 3 years.

Impressive Capacity

The e-Transporter is not only notable for its load capacity, but its battery system is also remarkable. With an electric range of up to 82 miles, the e-Transporter equips one of the latest and most advanced batteries powered vans to hit the current market. This new feature provides low running costs to the owners. Also, due to the limited moving parts of the electric powertrain, the overall maintenance cost of the e-Transporter reduces.

Quick Charging in 45 Minutes

The e-Transporter 6.1’s Combing Charging System (CCS) socket boasts both AC and DC charging. For DC charging, a Type 2 charging cable is presented with the van as standard. For AC charging, e-Transporter supports the power of up to 7.2kW.

For quick charging, the owner can reach up to 80% capacity in just 45 minutes with DC charging. Thanks to the inbuilt power meter which enables the owner to check the status of the battery.

Thanks to its iconic electric powertrain, the VW ABT E-Transporter is set free from road tax obligations and can employ London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone, without any charge. Moreover, it also eligible for the plug-in car grant of the government.

The Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has shown its support for revised SPARKS and HIP apprentices or novices concerning the 2020 finale. This competition seeks future talent in the field of plumbing and electricians. The company has manifested its support by providing loans for three of their 6.1 transporter vans. Out of these 3, there are 2-panel vans along with a Kombi, which is intended to support the transfer of goods.

From January to March, seven regional heats were conducted that were also backed by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. In these heats, the company had provided crafter and caddy vans for more than a dozen participants contending to become Apprentice of the Year. Though, the global pandemic had put a stoppage on the competition.

The Competition Resumed

With slow-down in the impact of Covid-19, the competition has once again resumed. The competition has been resumed with new guidelines for the format to comply with the Covid-19 guidelines. It is done to secure all the participants, in terms of health.

All the regional winners of the heats will have to participate in a small written test that will be conducted online. The scores of the same test will finalize the top three contenders of the finals. Three of the finalists will have to participate in the one-day practical assessment. These assessments will be conducted in their colleges respectively. 

The final of SPARKS will take place on 24^th September and the HIP final is scheduled to be on 29^th September. On the same day of the competition, the winners will be declared.

These vans are capable of holding 1,309 kg and a volume of 9.3m.
