Pickups & 4×4 Vans

Which Pickup Truck? A pickup truck has long been favored among farmers and blue collar workers who need to bed space to do their everyday chores. In recent years the pickup truck has also become a favorite among independent women who enjoy more than just being a housewife. If you are considering a pickup truck you might wonder which pickup truck should be your pickup truck.
The answer to that question lies within you. All trucks have a purpose and generally are not used as the family vehicle.

Trucks are made to go on the road and some are also made to go off the road. Farmers usually do not have paved roads through the fields and they must depend on their truck to transport supplies to areas where other vehicles cannot go. Many trucks offer four-wheel drive that allows them to get into the trenches without the fear of getting stuck.

There are several auto manufacturers that offer both full, and mid-size trucks to fit any budget. Ford offers a full size truck in the F150 and a smaller version in the Ford Ranger. Both models can be either a single cab or double cab. The Ranger is a great truck for fuel consumption but still offers storage capacity in the bed.

Chevrolet offers their Silverado with several different packages. They offer a 1500, 2500, and a 3500. They even offer a 1500 hybrid that provides the ultimate in fuel efficiency.
The Honda Ridgeline made an attempt to break into the family market with its four door design and a smaller bed. The product was well received by former Honda owners because of the durability of the Honda automobile, but it does not fare as well in the commercial industry where the pickup truck is the workhorse vehicle that it was intended to be.

Dodge has made some great headway in the pickup truck industry with their full-size Dodge Ram. The Ram gained immediately popularity because of its stylish design. The Dodge Dakota followed with a smaller version that was affordable and still offered workability.

When deciding which pickup truck should be your pickup truck, you should ask yourself exactly what you are looking for. If you need a truck to work on the farm you will probably want to find a full-size truck that offers two-wheel and four-wheel drive. If you just need to haul around tools and supplies you might want to consider a smaller pickup that gets better fuel mileage but still provides you the room you need get the job done.

Toyota Hilux Truly Invincible?

If you are looking for a tough and versatile vehicle, they don’t come much tougher than  Toyota Pickups.

Toyota Hilux Truly Invincible? The Toyota Hilux is one of the world’s most popular pickup trucks – there are several different versions worldwide but the concept is always the same: they are built to last with high quality Japanese electronics and engines built for high mileage. The latest generation of models are very comfortable inside and pretty sporty looking too.

Likely because of their excellent build quality, adaptability, mobility and damn-right toughness, the Toyota pickup has proved popular with rebel groups (and those countering the rebels)  in war-torn countries since the 60’s. Not too mention the availability and cost effectiveness versus purpose built military or heavy armoured vehicles.

Back in 2003, BBC’s top gear did a feature on the Toyota pickup which spanned several episodes in which they took a used Toyota Hliux and crashed it, attacked it with a wrecking crane and let become totally submerged in the sea… Yet only with only the replacement of a few disposable parts, was still fully operational in no-time. Toyota seemed rather proud of this TV appearance and gave it a mention in their history of the Toyota Hilux post on their blog. Jeremy Clarkson also drove a Toyota Hilux to the magnetic north pole, clearly an educated choice after their failed attempts to destroy one. The medium sized van from Toyota is named the Toyota Proace.

One of our Swiss Vans team also recently travelled to rural Thailand, where a 25+ year old Toyota pickup is still in use for farming, apparently without ever being properly serviced and is still able to do what ever is called upon it, such as transporting groups of labourers or fully laden with harvested crops. The Toyota pickup is one of the most popular vehicles in Thailand due to their low cost and longevity. They seem to prefer to overload pickup trucks or retrofit them like Lutons than to buy bigger trucks.

We recommend pickups for people who need to carry lots of different types of loads or go on out door activities (but don’t have the need a full size truck or tipper). You can carry a lot more varied loads in a pickup than you can in a car or panel van. E.g., Rubbish, building or garden waste, lawn mowers or gardening equipment, surf boards, kayaks or a small boat, camping gear, lots of kitchen sinks or even just the shopping.

Here at Swiss Vans we have Toyota pickups available to buy or contract hire. Available in 4×4, double cab or single cab and with lots of extras available – there is a Toyota Hilux to suit every business or recreational need. The latest Toyota Hilux has a hint of  Toyota land cruiser about its nose, with a large chrome grille and big headlights. Beyond that, the Hilux is all about function, with a standard two or four-door body and a large pick-up bed behind it. On the inside, the dash is constructed from hard, durable plastics, but quality and assembly are first-class. It feels much less utilitarian than you’d expect, though. You might prefer a Ford Ranger Lease

The Toyota Hilux’s has workmanlike roots, but standard safety kit is as good as a regular SUV. Electronic stability control, traction control, ABS with brake force distribution and six airbags are all fitted a standard. The latest Toyota Hilux Invincible was described by Toyota as being “one step up” from the old model, and a much roomier cabin reflects this. Of the three models offered, the four-door, five-seater Double Cab model is the most suitable for use as a passenger vehicle.

Volkswagen Amarok available

Swiss Vans now has the Volkswagen Amarok truck available for order.

The Volkswagen Amarok has always proved itself as a leader in its class, it is wider and easier to drive than most other 4×4 vehicles and manages to do so whilst looking great. T6 Finance

All models of the VW Amarok have a good level of trim and a high specification and we usually have stock of the Amarok Trendline model which has a nicer level of trim than standard.

There are also Plenty of other great features that will make your Volkswagen Amarok stand out from the crowd.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle Range

The VW Amarok truck is one of the most practical pick ups, It has a large load bay as well as a strong engine and good ability off-road.

Enthusiastic drivers will find that the stability control comes in earlier than you’d expect in high-speed corners.

But the Volkswagen Amarok is naturally stable with it switched off, exhibiting nothing more than a mild, controllable yaw in all but the most provocative manoeuvres.

The Volkswagen Amarok’s interior moves the class to the next level.

Despite the low spec levels compared toVolkswagen’s road cars the build quality is exceptionally good, even with tough but well textured surfaces and an excellent driving position.

Car drivers would notice the unusual height of the seats and driving position. But otherwise everything falls under the fingers in exactly the way that it would in a Golf.

On the move  the Volkswagen Amarok truck combines excellent off road abilities with solid and reliable car like driving.

The combination of a solid, leaf spring rear axle, mechanical locks on the centre and traction control means that most extreme off road situations require little more than pressing the accelerator.

Amorak has helped rescue & rehome 1,287 Animals

In total, 1,287 animals have been successfully rehomed since Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles loaned the VW Amarok to the Southridge RSPCA centre in Hertfordshire a year ago.

The ultra-adaptable pick-up has proved invaluable in rescuing and rehoming a huge variety of animals, from desperate dogs to persecuted parrots.

As well as rescuing animals in need, the RSPCA has used the vehicle as a trusty work-horse, using its large load space to pick up weekly pet food donations to feed its 250 live-in animals, mend fencing around its 16-acre site and tow horse boxes as far as Scotland to be rehomed.

The team has even used the pick-up as a search and rescue vehicle, rescuing a stray dog reported to them late at night by using the headlight beams as a search light.

Anna White, manager at the RSPCA Southridge centre, said: “Having the Volkswagen Amarok For Sale  at the Centre has been incredible – it has allowed us to just get on with things, without thinking about whether the vehicle would be able to.

Literally a Lifesaver:

“When it snowed earlier this year, one of our animals was in a critical condition. In any of our other vehicles, we wouldn’t have been able to get down the lane to get him to the vet in time to save him, but the Amarok just handled it effortlessly.

“I used to worry about getting stuck when I was towing a horsebox across the field – now I’m secure in the knowledge that it’s not going to happen. It’s a phenomenal vehicle.

“It’s fair to say that we’ve really put the Amarok through its paces in the past year – it’s spent most of its time driving off-road – but it’s just as much of a pleasure to drive both on and off road.”

Alex Smith, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “We are thrilled to hear that the Amarok has been such a valuable addition to the RSPCA centre in Southridge. At Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, we recognise that small gestures can make a big difference.

“Enabling the RSPCA to carry out their work more easily is just one of the ways in which we have been lucky enough to demonstrate our on-going support for local businesses and worthy causes across the UK.”
