The new Nissan NV200 offers top-class load space

The new Nissan NV200 is a small van that has replaced the Kubistar of Nissan van range. It is available in two versions as a van with a large load space and a seven-seat Combi version that carries loads and passengers. It is with the help of innovative packaging ideas that the NV200 offers the largest and most practical cargo area.

Though the van is only slightly shorter than 4.4m in length, it has a load bay that is more than 2m long. As the van comes with front-wheel drive and a highly compact rear suspension system, it easily holds two standard Euro pallets in the cargo area at a time.

While the NV200 is no taller than its rivals with its 1.84m height, it is 520mm from ground level, making it the lowest van in its class that eases loading. This in turn helps boost cargo volume to 4.1 cu.m with a maximum payload of 771kg.

Seats can be folded away

Its seats can be folded away but are not removable where its middle row backrest offers a 60:40 split for increased versatility. While the entire assembly tumbles forward to fold-flat against the front seats, the rear seats individually fold to either side of the load area.

The van has a fully independent strut type front suspension that is mounted on a separate sub-frame to offer a compact and lightweight wide leaf spring rear axle. The van develops 200 Nm of torque and 86PS which is transmitted through a five-speed gearbox.

Rear view parking camera

The first in this segment, the NV200 comes with an optional rear view parking camera while its cabin is full of storage space, pockets and cup/bottle holders. You also find a secret storage space in the glove box’s upper portion where you can hide cameras, vital documents and mobile phones.

Besides the parking camera, the van has other car-like items like power windows, ESP anti-skid tech and Nissan’s Intelligent Key. The van also offers additional safety equipment like electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA). While side bags are an option, driver and passenger air bags are standard features.

Optimum pedestrian safety

The van also comes with additional crash absorbing material in its bonnet for optimum pedestrian safety. This feature also minimizes crash damage to the vulnerable bonnet parts like the radiator, which in turn spells cheaper repair costs.

Pedestrian safety has also been considered. There is extra crash absorbing material in the bonnet. The NV200’s safety structure also helps to minimise crash damage to vulnerable under bonnet parts such as the radiator, so repair costs are cheaper.
