New Ford Transit Custom Trail and Active

The Ford Transit family had the third-highest selling electric vehicles last year. Ford has prioritised keeping their supply of electric vans up, since the restrictions from the pandemic have lifted, to cater to the increasing demand from businesses and others looking to go out on adventures. Another big reason for Ford’s popularity is the demand for eco-friendly, go anywhere capability, which they have answered. Over the last few years, Ford has expanded the type of hybrid Transit customs to include off-road capability like none other with the New Ford Transit Custom Trail and Transit Custom Active. Today we’re going to go over the reasons these two amazing electric vans are making such a bang on the market in the last few years, and even more so today.

New Ford Transit Custom Trail

See the power before turning the key

With black detailing and the famous big Ford grille in a matt grey honeycomb pattern. The New Ford Transit Custom Trail offers the same tough look on the outside as the power under it has under the hood. Boasting 16″ black alloy wheels and a wider body. The Custom Trail is offered in two heights and two different lengths, plus a five-seater double cab in-van option — also available with two lengths to choose from. Black cladding on the lower section of the front bumper, across the wheel arches, and through the sills add to the tough look.

Power beyond looks

The 2023 Trail comes with a 3.5-litre Ecoboost V6 diesel engine that produces 310 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft of torque. It’s built for power and control. An added dual AGM batteries and extended fuel range have improved fuel efficiency in this van.

Go anywhere traction and control

A ten-speed automatic transmission with Ford’s Intelligent ALL-WHEEL drive system complements the improved traction of the tires. As you drive, you can choose from five driving modes – normal, Eco, mud or ruts, tow or haul, and slippery – to keep you moving no matter what your terrain is like.

Storage, towability, and interior function galore

The New Ford Transit Custom Trail with its high-roof, extended configuration provides ample space from 357 up to 487 cubic feet. For van lifers and campers — this means a person up to 6′ 5″ can stand freely in the back. As a bonus, with the addition of the heavy-duty trailer package, the van has the capability to tow up to 2,000 kg of luggage and goods.

Extras that can’t be beat

The Transit Trail van comes standard with dark Palazzo grey cloth featuring 4-way manual swivel driver and passenger seats. This allows you multifunctional control and configuration for additional living area seating when you want to relax on your adventure. In addition, the technology has been upgraded with SYNC using a 12-inch touchscreen for co-pilot 360 technology, and Fordpass Connect to keep you connected to your van and fleet. The cabin even has 110-volt, 12-volt and USB outlets for all your camping and power needs.

New Ford Transit Custom Active

The New Ford Transit Custom Active was designed to look stylish and strong, while putting even more strength and control in your hands. This is the van to buy if you need tons of space or want that next level camper van.

Built to look and work tough

The exterior of the New Ford Transit Custom Active is designed to stand out from the crowd. Unique 17″ alloy wheels and a signature grille paired with a full-length sidestep means you get looks, function, and style. Additional cladding on the wheel arches, body sides, rear bumper, and mirror caps make the exterior tough enough for the trail less travelled. The remarkable looks and function continue inside the cab, with partial leather trim and ‘Nordic blue’ stitching.

Power and traction

The Transit Active doesn’t just look good; it runs like a beast. Powered by a 2.0 litre Ecoblue diesel or you can choose the optional Ecoblue 48-volt mild hybrid powertrain, plus the Fordpass Connect modem technology provides all the power, comfort, and traction control you will need —including driver assist. The Active provides the option of adding the Quaife mechanical limited-slip differential — for manual transmission only. The extra help of the MLSd allows for even more assistance. It locks up the wheels that are unable to move due to being stuck, and diverts torque to the free wheels, freeing you from mud, ruts, or anything nature throws at you. This van also provides fuel efficiency and eco-friendly emissions, making it a total package deal.

Storage and flexibility offered by Transit Custom Active

The best part of the New Ford Transit Custom Active, aside from its power and traction, is its stowability. The rear seats sit on a rail system, allowing for complete flexibility. Turn the seats to face each other for socialisation, or take them out for more storage space, you can even use the seat’s mounting points to install an in-vehicle rack for bikes, tools and more. The storage and towability doesn’t end there. The Active comes standard with a roof rack, plus can tow up to 2,500 kg of extra luggage, supplies, or goods. The back doors swing open to 180º and the added sliding side door gives you plenty of ways to access the rear seating and storage.

Extras

To keep you connected to your New Ford Transit Custom Active, each model comes complete with all sorts of smart technology like the FordPass Connect — both in the van and available through the app. The great benefits of the FordPass allow you to keep track of the vans health and other functions, ensuring you always know how your van is doing. There are tie down spots in the cargo area for securing your load. The Ford Active is perfect as a camper conversion, kits and installation can be easily done. For more outlet power, you can have a 240v socket added that supplies 150 watts of additional power. The active was designed for all your posh modification needs.
